New Testament Bible Reading Challenge week 14

New Testament Bible Reading Challenge
4 March 2013 to 28th February 2014
Week 14: Bible Reading Plan and Discussion Starters

Welcome to The Salvation Army's Challenge to read the New Testament from beginning to end within one year, reading just 5 chapters per week.

We are now onto Week 14 of our New Testament Bible Reading Challenge
as we complete Luke's Gospel and move into the Gospel according to John.

Great Expectations: Expect God to speak through the Scriptures, expect to learn new things about Him, and about ourselves, and expect to read and absorb some familiar stories and passages.

Top Tip!
To get the most out of this challenge, start each daily reading with a short, simple, sincere prayer asking God to guide your thinking as you read. Then open the Bible and read slowly, with the aim of learning something new. After the reading, consider how it may affect your life and relationship with Jesus, and allow your increased knowledge of the Scriptures to shape your character and strengthen your trust in God.

Take your time - enjoy this opportunity - and may God bless you as you embark upon this New Testament Bible Challenge.

Monday, June 03, 2013 --- Luke 22 --- The Last Supper, before Jesus is betrayed, arrested, denied, and put on trial
- v19, during the Passover meal Jesus broke bread and told the disciples to 'do this in remembrance of Me'...how often do you think He meant? Just for that one occasion? Every week? Every day? Whenever we eat a Passover meal?
- v45 is interesting...it may be easy to assume the disciples let Jesus down by falling asleep despite their tiredness late at night, but can we sympathise more with the drowsiness that is caused by sorrow?

Tuesday, June 04, 2013 --- Luke 23
--- The crucifixion, death, and burial of Jesus

- v35, what would the repercussions have been for us if at that moment Jesus proved His power and authority and saved Himself in response to their insults?
- v54, what day of the week did Jesus die?

Wednesday, June 05, 2013 ---
Luke 24 --- The resurrection, appearances to His disciples, and the ascension of Jesus to heaven.
- v1, what day of the week did Jesus come back to life? How many days and nights does this mean He was dead for?
- Was Jesus' body a physical (tangible) one?...what evidence do we have?
- v51, Where is heaven?

Thursday, June 06, 2013 --- John 1 --- Jesus is the Word made flesh, and the Lamb of God
- v14 ,Who is the Word made flesh?
- v1, Is the Word also God?
- v29, Why do you think John the Baptist called Jesus 'the Lamb of God'?

Friday, June 07, 2013 --- John 2 --- Jesus changes water into wine, and clears the Temple
- v5, do you think Mary was fully aware of Jesus' power?
- v24, what can we learn from this verse?
