New Teatament Bible Reading Challenge week 10

New Testament Bible Reading Challenge

4 March 2013 to 28th February 2014

Week 10: Bible Reading Plan and Discussion Starters

Welcome to The Salvation Army's Challenge to read the New Testament from beginning to end within one year, reading just 5 chapters per week.
We are now onto Week 10, which means we're 1/5 through our New Testament Bible Reading Challenge!

Great Expectations: Expect God to speak through the Scriptures, expect to learn new things about Him, and about ourselves, and expect to read and absorb some familiar stories and passages.

Top Tip!To get the most out of this challenge, start each daily reading with a short, simple, sincere prayer asking God to guide your thinking as you read. Then open the Bible and read slowly, with the aim of learning something new. After the reading, consider how it may affect your life and relationship with Jesus, and allow your increased knowledge of the Scriptures to shape your character and strengthen your trust in God.
Take your time - enjoy this opportunity - and may God bless you as you embark upon this New Testament Bible Challenge.

Luke 2 --- the birth of Jesus, the visit of the shepherds, and His presentation at the Temple.

- compare v24 with Leviticus 12....how old would Jesus have been when they went to Jerusalem to present Him as their first male child?

- why were Mary and Joseph presenting the offering of the poor?...Shouldn't they have offered some of the gold which had been brought by the wise men?

- why were they not afraid of King Herod who, from Jerusalem, wanted to kill the Jesus?

Tuesday, May 07, 2013 ---
Luke 3 --- the ministry of John the Baptist, and the genealogy of Jesus.

- Take a look at the prophecy quoted in v4-6 and compare the actual prophecy made in Isaiah 40:3-5...there's an interesting difference...what can we learn from this?

- v14, some have taken John's response to the soldiers as an indication that God does not require us to be pacifists....what do you think?

Wednesday, May 08, 2013 ---
Luke 4 --- Jesus resists the Devil’s initial temptations, and begins His ministry.

- v2, some might say that to not eat for 40 days is impossible and so this number is just symbolic....what do you think?

- is the Devil real?

- Jesus faces a lack of belief in His authority when He returns to Nazareth, the town He grew up in....why do you think this might be?

Thursday, May 09, 2013 ---
Luke 5 --- Jesus begins calling His disciples, and heals a paralytic brought to Him by friends.

- v14, why do you think Jesus ordered the man not to tell anyone of the healing? Did Jesus know how the man would react?

- What was the deeper purpose of Jesus' demonstration of His healing powers over the paralytic?

Friday, May 10, 2013 ---
Luke 6 --- Jesus provides teaching on the Sabbath, judging, and loving enemies.

- Name the Twelve apostles! (see v12-16 for help)

- How easy are v27-36 to implement within our own lives?

- v46-49, which of the builders are you?
